We go to the Frontier any day

Dec 21 1916
From Soms L.I., Meerut

My dear old Elsie
I’m so sorry I’ve been writing such bad letters lately but I really have had  no time and this mail must be a short one too – I will try to write a long letter sometime during the Xmas holiday.

We’ve got back to Meerut quite safely but are living in state of readiness to go to the Frontier any day. The Colonel has told me he wants me to take on an advance party of 100 men so I shall in all probability go in 10 days or so before the Regiment leaves Meerut.

Many thanks dear for all your letters and papers it is so good of you. I shall thinking of you during Xmas. I shall have a quiet time – shall have midday dinner with the men of my Company and in the evening I am dining with Mrs. Urwickone of the ladies of the Regiment. Excuse haste – best love and all good wishes

from Stan

Very busy and training strenuously…

Tughlakabad Camp, Delhi
Dec 2 1916

My dear old Elsie
Only a moment this mail to send you a line to thank you ever so much for your last letter written from Hale1 – you seem to have had a real busy holiday but I’m sure the change must have done you good. We are very busy and training strenuously – very often night and day – we are all very fit and must be hard as nails – I’m bound to say I like camp life much better than barracks. We go to the Frontier on Jan 15 – so that will give us about 2 weeks in Meerut to pack up and make other arrangements – best love dear old girl and a New Year kiss fromStan
